Ancient Douglas Fir forest in the Pacific Northwest

Our Story

Past, Present & Future

Three generations of Douglas Fir — from the ancient forests to your home.

The Past — Old Growth Douglas Fir

Douglas Fir — Pseudotsuga menziesii — has been the backbone of Pacific Coast construction for over a century. The old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest produced timber of extraordinary density, tight grain, and dimensional stability that modern second-growth simply cannot replicate.

Old growth Doug Fir grew slowly over hundreds of years, producing clear vertical grain (CVG) wood with 30 to 50 growth rings per inch. This density gives it superior hardness, resistance to wear, and the kind of character that only time can create.

Much of this timber was harvested in the early and mid-twentieth century to build the homes, schools, and commercial buildings of the American West. Today, reclaimed old growth Douglas Fir is among the most prized materials in historic restoration and high-end construction.

No middlemen. Direct from the mill to your project.

The Present — Direct from Our Mill

Douglas Fir USA LLC sources and mills Douglas Fir with a commitment to resource optimization. We work with timber that would otherwise go to waste — salvaged logs, urban removals, and carefully selected second-growth — and process it into premium flooring, paneling, trim, and timbers.

Our clear vertical grain flooring and paneling is milled to exacting tolerances. Every board is inspected for grain consistency, moisture content, and dimensional accuracy before it ships. We sell direct from the mill, which means no middlemen, honest pricing, and a direct line to the people who made your wood.

We ship nationwide — to California's Bay Area and beyond, through Nevada, to Wisconsin, New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and everywhere in between. Call or text us at 808-859-1132 and talk directly with the mill.

The Future — Sustainable Douglas Fir

The future of Douglas Fir is sustainable. As old growth stocks are exhausted, the industry must adapt — and we are. We are committed to sourcing timber responsibly, minimizing waste at every stage of milling, and producing products that last generations rather than decades.

A Douglas Fir floor installed today, properly maintained, will outlast the building it is in. That is the promise of this wood — and the reason we have dedicated ourselves to bringing it to builders, architects, and homeowners who understand the difference between a material and an heirloom.

We are also investing in education — helping our customers understand grain orientation, moisture acclimation, installation best practices, and the long-term care that makes Douglas Fir flooring and paneling a lifetime investment.
